Description
This 60 minute presentation – aimed at beginner to intermediate attorneys – will give practitioners the tools needed to begin mastering the craft of effectively preparing claimants for Social Security Disability Hearings. There will be a discussion on how to educate the client on the key elements of the disability process – including what “total disability” means in the client’s claim, how to get the client to understand the important medical issues in the case, the importance of the onset date and how the client’s vocational profile will be used in the decision. The presentation will also delve into how best to prepare your client for the actual process of testifying at the hearing. Examples of what testimony is needed for specific impairments pursuant to social security law and how to get a client to focus on these areas will also be discussed.

Christopher Grover is a staff attorney with Jeffrey Freedman Attorneys, PLLC where he focuses his practice on Social Security Disability and Bankruptcy Law. He graduated cum laude from the University at Buffalo School of Law and is admitted to practice in New York.
Mr. Grover’s Social Security practice has been influenced by his involvement with several health service organizations concentrating on disability issues. His mother has worked for the New York State Office of Mental Health for 35 years, so he learned about the difficulties of mental health programming and servicing at a young age. During his undergraduate studies, he gained a unique perspective and insight while working as a classroom aide, program aide, job coach, and residential aide for an agency supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder. He has worked with the Lupus Alliance of Upstate New York to shed light on lupus and other autoimmune diseases, which are often times marginalized until they become life threatening. These experiences have allowed Mr. Grover to help his clients convey their limitations not only to a judge, but to their families, friends, and treatment providers.
Mr. Grover is currently serving as chair for the Bar Association of Erie County’s Committee for the Disabled, executive councilmember for the BAEC’s Young Lawyer’s Committee, and he is on the Lupus Alliance of Upstate New York’s Board of Directors.
