Title: COPD UPDATE
Presenter: James D. Pike, D.O.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1) Understand how to implement evidence-based guidelines to manage dyspnea and activity limitations in patients with COPD.
2) Employ strategies to minimize exacerbations in COPD patients.
3) Utilize coordination-of-care approaches in patients recently hospitalized due to an exacerbation associated with COPD
4) Understand the barriers to patient adherence to COPD treatment.
5) Implement patient education and patient communication strategies, along with customized treatment plans, to promote patient adherence to COPD therapies.
The Indiana Osteopathic Association (IOA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. The IOA designates this program for a maximum of 1.00 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.
It is the policy of the IOA that any physician dissatisfied with the CME program will be issued a refund upon request, and no CME credits will be reported to the AOA. Complaints on Evaluation Forms also are taken into consideration when planning future CME programs and may lead to changes in the format or content.

Dr. Pike is a native Hoosier and graduate of Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis, IN. He completed his undergraduate degrees at Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI). He graduated from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCUCOM) in Kansas City, MO, in 1984. He served as an officer in the Army Medical Corps on active duty from 1984 through 1994 before returning to Indianapolis. Dr. Pike is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care medicine. He is a fellow in both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Chest Physicians. He has practiced in Indianapolis since 1994, and founded Pike Medical Consultants in 2007. Dr. Pike serves as chairperson of the dean’s advisory board for the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-COM) in Indianapolis, IN. He has been appointed as a clinical assistant professor of medicine at MU-COM and serves as a clinical faculty member in the physician assistant program at Butler University in Indianapolis, IN.
